Hi there!
Welcome to The Curious Med Student. My name is Twinkle (yes, that is my real name). I am 24 years old and will be starting medical school in August 2021! I am the firstborn daughter to two people from India. Throughout my life, I struggled with being a first-generation college student in the United States. Ever since high school, I wanted to work in health care and dreamed of going to medical school, but had so many questions like where do I even start?
More recently, I graduated from my university in 2019 with a Bachelor’s of Science in biomedical sciences. Due to my persistent curiosity, I obtained minors in microbiology and immunology, psychology, and global public health. After graduating, I took two years to build my clinical experiences, study for the MCAT, and generally take a break from school.
As my gap years progressed, my curiosity led me to developing many different hobbies from baking to drawing to writing and photography. I had many different projects throughout these last two years. One of my recent projects was developing my Redbubble page of science/public health designs. However, I really wanted to create a resource that could help other people. As a result, this blog, The Curious Med Student, was created.
Since I enjoy writing and photography, I plan to document and share my medical school journey with other students. I hope to create posts that will help other pre-med students learn from my past mistakes and any future mistakes. In addition to pre-med content, I will be writing about other topics that I am curious about such as public health and social justice.
Wherever this journey takes me, I hope you hop along and we can learn together!
Stay curious,
Twinkle
